Italian Style Jalapeno Poppers

Jalapeno poppers done up Italian style, stuffed with ground meat, fresh basil, tomato sauce and topped with Parmesan cheese. We know you love jalapeno poppers. They are the best appetizers in the world.

Italian Style Jalapeno Poppers

Italian Style Jalapeno Poppers Recipe

Ingredients

  • 16-20 jalapeno peppers (Or as many as you can fill - I used gorgeous RED jalapeno peppers)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 extra jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 large tomato, chopped
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup chopped basil + extra for garnish
  • 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese + extra for garnish

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat a large pan to medium heat and add olive oil. Heat. Add onion and 2 jalapeno peppers. Cook about 5 minutes to soften.
  2. Add garlic and cook about a minute.
  3. Add turkey and break apart. Mix and cook about 8 minutes, or until turkey is cooked through.
  4. Add tomato, stewed tomatoes and basil. Stir and reduce heat to low. Simmer for at least 10 minutes, but 30 minutes or more is better. Lets those flavors develop, baby!
  5. Slice the jalapeno peppers in half lengthwise and scoop out the insides. 
  6. Add 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese to the meat mixture and stir. Stuff each jalapeno with the stuffing mixture.
  7. Bake the jalapenos on a lightly oiled baking sheet at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Remove, cool slightly, and top with extra basil and Parmesan cheese.
  9. Serve!
