Spicy Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce Recipe

This flank steak recipe is marinated for several hours, then grilled to awesomeness and topped with a homemade chimichurri sauce. Don't forget plenty of jalapeno peppers. We served ours with some extra jalapenos grilled on the side. So good!

Spicy Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce Recipe

Spicy Grilled Flank Steak with Chimichurri Sauce Recipe

  • 1 flank steak or skirt steak, about 1.5 pounds
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • Dash of Worcestershire
  • Juice from 2 limes
  • 1 cup red wine vinegar
  • Splash of red wine
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cracked black pepper
  • Water as needed
  • Chimichurri sauce to serve (see below)

Cooking Directions

  1. Lightly score the steak on each side against the grain.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, Worcestershire, lime juice. Vinegar, wine, garlic and olive oil. Mix well.
  3. Set the steak into a wide, flat dish and cover with the marinade. Add enough water to ensure entire steak is submerged.
  4. Top with cracked black pepper.
  5. Marinate at least 2 hours. I marinated ours for about 5 hours.
  6. Heat a grill to medium heat. Grill the steak 4-6 minutes per side, depending on your desired doneness. I did 5 minutes each side and it was perfect.
  7. Remove from heat and rest it for 5 minutes.
  8. Slice and serve with chimichurri and grilled jalapeno peppers.

For the Chimichurri Sauce

  • 1 cup chopped parsley
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Directions

  1. This is so difficult - are you ready? Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender and blend until combined. Add a bit more oil if you'd like. Salt and pepper and serve!
